Ski Hill to celebrate end of summer, raise money for ADA restroom facility

LEAVENWORTH – Leavenworth Winter Sports Club (LWSC) is celebrating the end of summer with its third Loos 4 the Lodge event on Sept. 7, from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Ski Hill Lodge’s ADA Restroom Facility Project, which will offer accessibility, larger capacity during busy events, and covered outdoor patio space. LWSC hopes to raise at least $30,000 at the event.

“I think that, especially local families, will enjoy having better access to a bathroom where they can help take their kids in and out of, and not have it be super tight. Also, with the addition of the outdoor gathering space, I think that that will allow a lot more opportunities for people in our community to host birthday parties or gatherings,” said LWSC Events Manager Kelly Carter.

Tickets are $10 for kids and $15 for adults. The end of summer fundraising event will have live music by Darnell Scott from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Given to Fly from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and a dance party with DJ Abe Martinez from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. LWSC Ski Teams will be doing face painting and hair coloring. The raffle will have prizes from businesses such as Mission Ridge, Eastside Cycleworks, Lib Tech Snowboards, and more. Local vendors such as Yodelin, Shaved Icicle, Bavarian Bagel Co., La Javelina, Icicle Brewing Company, Yonder Cider, and Eagle Creek Winery will provide food and beverages for purchase.

“We've kept ticket prices low so that the whole community can come and enjoy it, and all of the proceeds are going towards this project,” said Carter.

The project is the last and largest project under the Ski Hill Improvement Project (SHIP), which started in 2014, according to LWSC’s website. This year, LWSC finalized architectural plans, performed engineering required for electrical, heating, and plumbing, and prepared the site for excavation, which is slated to begin this fall.

If fundraising and bidding goes to plan, LWSC is hopeful construction on the facility will begin next spring or summer, with completion by the 2025-2026 winter season.

“I think the staff, the current board, and former board members, will be really excited to see it come to life…The community has heard us talk about fundraising and this project for a while. And until you actually see the physical movement happening, sometimes it kind of feels like never going to happen. I think in general, people are going to be really, really excited,” said Carter.

Event organizers recommend bringing blankets and camping chairs, cash, an I.D. if purchasing beer or wine, and reusable light up or glow accessories and clothing for the dance party. Event goers should leave their dogs, outside food and beverages, and coolers at home. LWSC will be utilizing its new Winton Mfg. composting bins during the event. Ski Hill Lodge is located at 10701 Ski Hill Dr, Leavenworth.
