WENATCHEE— The National Weather Service has extended a heat advisory for portions of North Central Washington until 10 p.m. Sunday as the region continues to experience unusually high temperatures.

According to the urgent weather message issued by the NWS Spokane office at 2:28 a.m. Thursday, the affected areas in North Central Washington include the cities of Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Cashmere, Entiat, Chelan, Brewster, Bridgeport, Okanogan, Omak, Oroville, Tonasket, Twisp, Winthrop, Mazama, Conconully, and Nespelem. The Wenatchee Area, Okanogan Valley, Methow Valley, and portions of the Waterville Plateau are also under the advisory.

During the day, hot conditions are expected in the valleys, with highs ranging from 95 to 111 degrees Fahrenheit. Overnight lows are expected to remain mainly in the upper 50s and 60s.

The NWS warns that the heat will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors who may be vulnerable to the heat.

The heat advisory is expected to remain in effect until Sunday evening, as high pressure continues to dominate the region, bringing clear skies and intense heat to North Central Washington. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe and comfortable during this prolonged period of hot weather.
