Wenatchee AppleSox sweep Kamloops NorthPaws with 15-5 victory

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Wenatchee AppleSox completed a sweep of the Kamloops NorthPaws on Sunday afternoon with a resounding 15-5 victory at Norbrock Stadium, fueled by Cannon Peery's grand slam in the fifth inning and big innings late in the game.

With the win, Wenatchee (12-3) improved to 7-2 on the road and extended their lead in the North Division to two games over the Edmonton Riverhawks with 12 games left in the first half of the season. The AppleSox also stretched their season-best winning streak to five games.

Peery's grand slam capped off a five-run fifth inning, with five consecutive batters reaching base and scoring with two outs. The cleanup hitter drove in eight runs over the last two days and collected six hits in the series.

The AppleSox had to overcome early deficits, falling behind 3-2 after a two-out RBI double in the first and a solo home run in the second by the NorthPaws. Wenatchee tied the game in the fifth on a drag bunt single by Max Hartman, scoring Elijah Pelayo.

The offense continued to produce, with Pelayo hitting a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Antonio Gianni adding an RBI single in the seventh. The ninth inning saw the AppleSox put the game out of reach, scoring six runs on five consecutive singles to open the frame.

Wenatchee's 12-3 start is their best since 2012 and tied for the second-best through 15 games in franchise history, trailing only the 14-1 start in 2011.

The AppleSox return home Monday for a non-league game against the DubSea Fish Sticks on Mascot Night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium before heading back on the road to face the Yakima Valley Pippins from Tuesday to Thursday.
