Posted

The first topic in the series of free community "Ruby U" presentations is Thursday, April 11th at 7:00 pm at Chelan’s Historic Ruby Theatre.

Rich Beausoleil from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife will discuss black bear ecology from a ten-year research project in the North Cascades that finished in 2023; provide an update on orphaned bear cubs from the Twenty-Five Mile fire; give an update on human-black bear conflict at Lake Chelan; discuss how WDFW has used Karelian Bear Dogs at Lake Chelan; and give tips on what Lake Chelan residents can do to co-exist with bears and become a BearWise community.

The next scheduled “Ruby U” programs will include a demonstration and lecture by Dr. Wendy Waszut-Barrett, who will be in Chelan to paint the Ruby’s new curtains and discuss historic painted theatre curtains. The third presentation will be on Chelan Valley geology by Nick Zentner, a senior lecturer at Central Washington University who hosts the popular PBS series, “Nick on the Rocks.”
