LEAVENWORTH - The Leavenworth Lions Club held its 2nd annual food drive on May 17, collaborating with Dan's Food Market to collect donations for the Community Cupboard, a local organization that provides food assistance to those in need. The event, which took place at Dan's Food Market, saw a significant turnout from the community, resulting in the collection of 844.5 pounds of food and $209 in cash donations.

Rachel Bishop, Food Programs Manager at Community Cupboard, expressed her gratitude for the Lions Club's efforts, stating, "As we are serving more people than ever at the Community Cupboard, community food drives make such a big impact on our operations. I appreciate that the Lions Club hosted their drive at the local grocery store, to help a local business and provide non-expired food for the shoppers at the Cupboard."

The food drive's success can be attributed to the dedication of the Leavenworth Lions Club members, the support of Dan's Food Market, and the generosity of the Leavenworth community. The Lions Club acknowledged the contributions of all those involved, recognizing that the event's success was a testament to the power of community collaboration in addressing the needs of the less fortunate.

As the Community Cupboard continues its mission to alleviate hunger in Leavenworth, the support from organizations like the Leavenworth Lions Club and the community's generosity remain essential in ensuring that no one goes without food. The 2nd annual food drive serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action in tackling the issue of food insecurity within the community.
