Kodiaks secure third straight win

Posted

TONASKET - The Cascade High School varsity football team is on a winning streak. After a disappointing season opener following a winless 2023-24 season, the Kodiaks turned the ship around and have not let off the throttle for three consecutive Friday nights to move to 3-1 on the season. The latest, on October 4, saw the squad walk off the Tonasket Tigers’ home field in upper Okanogan County with a 28-14 win.

Led by senior quarterback and co-captain Will Biebesheimer, who launched an aerial assault against the Tigers, completing 15 of 18 passes for 275 yards, the Kodiaks crossed the goal line in each of the four quarters. Biebesheimer tossed two of those touchdowns 30 and 34 yards to sophomore Juian Feeney in the first and third quarters. Biebesheimer outdid himself in the fourth quarter with a 49-yard dart to sophomore Eli Webb, who caught the ball over his shoulder and streaked into the end zone without breaking stride. Biebesheimer connected with five different Kodiak receivers, including senior Jackson Feeney, to whom he completed eight passes for 110 yards.

The Kodiaks also proved themselves on the ground, rushing for 160 yards, including 110 of them and a second-quarter touchdown by senior running back and co-captain Artie Northrup. The remaining 50 were run by Biebesheimer, giving him a total of 365 yards on the night, over 100 yards more than Tonasket’s total.

The 1-4 Tigers scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters, and even held a brief 14-13 lead in the third quarter but were never really a threat to beat the Kodiaks, which was sweet satisfaction for the Leavenworth side in this rebound year after losing to the Tigers at home last year by the same 28-14 score.

The Kodiaks, led by Biebesheimer, who is poised to break into the top ten rankings among Division 1A quarterbacks in Washington State, will next take to the gridiron at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, in Brewster against the Bears.
