Howard Hopkins Memorial Pool opens for summer

Posted

LEAVENWORTH—After facing a delay from last-minute repairs this spring, the Howard Hopkins Memorial Pool opened for the summer on June 17. However, the pool will have limited programming during its first week to allow for staff training, which was delayed due to the repairs.

The opening will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, with a “Summer Splash Bash” hosted by Upper Valley Aquatics Boosters (UVAB). UVAB, formerly Friends of the Pool, is a group of residents dedicated to promoting, maintaining, and improving the community pool. The Splash Bash will be from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will have food, games, and safety demonstrations.

According to the city website, the pool's parking and season pass systems will change this year. For parking, the pool will issue a required “Dash Pass” to pool users, which will allow for three-hour parking in the Freund and Enchantment lots.

Photos will be required for season pass holders, including all members of a Family pass. Residents will be able to purchase season passes during operating hours, with the exception of weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. and during the Splash Bash. Local checks, cash, or cards will be accepted, with a 4 percent credit or debit card payment fee. PRSA residents will receive a discount on daily use fees and season passes with proof of address.

The Howard Hopkins Memorial Pool traditionally opens around Memorial Day weekend. However, the 2024 opening day was pushed back after city staff discovered the pool lining was failing in May. The pool underwent urgent repairs in order to open by mid-June.
