WENATCHEE — The Chelan County Sheriff's Office has received a $66,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to enhance local and regional emergency response capabilities, Sheriff Mike Morrison announced Wednesday.

The funds will be used to purchase a new 2024 Ford F250 4x4 vehicle, which will be capable of towing spill response trailers and boats throughout Chelan County and surrounding regions. The addition of this vehicle will bolster the agency's ability to respond effectively to spills, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies.

"With proper equipment, our response teams will be better equipped to handle critical situations swiftly and safely, ensuring timely and effective interventions," Morrison said in a statement.

The grant is part of the Sheriff's Office's ongoing efforts to secure external funding to meet the needs of the communities it serves. By efficiently utilizing these resources, the agency prioritizes the safety and well-being of all citizens.

"Our dedication to optimal resource management and community safety remains unwavering as we strive to be a reliable and steadfast ally in safeguarding our region," Morrison added.
