LEAVENWORTH — Two Cascade School District board members took the oath of office for another term on Dec. 15. A third board member will renew his term at a later date. All three ran uncontested in the November election.

At the start of the December board meeting, CSD Superintendent Dr. Tracey Edou swore in current board members Dr. Mike Worden and Trey Ising for an additional four-year term.

Dr. Mike Worden, who has served on the board since 2021, represents District #1, the East Leavenworth Road and Icicle Road area. Worden is a retired business executive, consultant and retired U.S. Air Force major general.

Trey Ising, Chairman and board director of District #5, representing Dryden and Blewett Pass area, has been a board member since 2017. Ising has nine children who have or are currently attending schools within the district, and owns and operates Cascade Quality Water.

Zachary Miller, who was not in attendance, will be sworn in at the next meeting. Miller was appointed to the board in 2019 and elected in 2021. He currently serves as the board director for District 3, which represents the Chumstick area, Lake Wenatchee, and Plain.

The CSD Board has two more members, who are currently serving terms through 2027: Cyndi Garza and Judy Derpack. Garza has represented District #4, Peshastin and North Road, since 2018, and serves as the board’s vice chair. Garza is a graduate of the former Peshastin-Dryden High School and a retired business owner; her two children are graduates of Cascade High School. Joining the board in 2019, Derpack is the board director of District #2, serving the City of Leavenworth, Titus Road and Ski Hill. She is a 30-year veteran teacher, and has worked as a substitute instructor for CSD and instructor for Mountain Sprouts.

During the Dec. 15 meeting, the board voted to renew committee appointments. Worden maintained his legislative and Rotary Club appointments. Miller was appointed as the board representative for Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), an organization and rule-making body for high school sports teams in the state. Garza will continue as the Upper Valley Parks and Recreation representative, and Derpack as the Chamber of Commerce representative.

The CSD School Board meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
