Barbara Joan (McKinney) Bergeron
August 27, 1934 –May 2, 2024

Barbara “Barb” Joan Bergeron passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 2, 2024, leaving behind a life well lived.

Barb grew up in Snohomish, Washington during a time when dogs ran free, and no one locked their doors. Barb’s journey to become a strong and independent woman began at an early age. She was guided well by her parents, Lester and Florence McKinney. When she was only six years old, she began milking cows on their farm in Swans Trail. Throughout her life Barb balanced hard work with fun. When her chores were done, she would ride her beloved horse, Riley. Barb’s small-town country girl style remained with her for life.

Barb was hardworking and smart. She attended Snohomish High School, where she was a member of the drill team. She was also elected princess for the Evergreen State Fair.
Shortly after graduation from Snohomish High School, Barbara married Gordon Walker. They were blessed with three children—first came identical twin daughters, Kathy Lou and Karen Sue followed by a son, Rick. Although they entered the marriage with best intentions, they divorced after 10 years.

Kathy, Karen and Rick followed in Barb’s footsteps --attending Snohomish High School. Barbara was active, not only in personal pursuits, but also in the lives of her children. Her commitment to her children took her beyond the confines of Snohomish County. She even traveled as a chaperone for the Snohomish High School Band as it performed across Europe in 1968.

In 1970, Barbara met Gary Bergeron. They married and spent 43 fun-filled years together. They explored the Pacific Northwest and places beyond, often in their RV. As they approached their “middle years”, they spent more time at their home in Leavenworth and became snowbirds who “flew” south to meet newfound friends in Yuma, Arizona during the winter.

Barb had a career in the automobile industry working at Bickford Motors, then Poier Motors. Most would have been content with that career, but not Barb. In 1981, she started her own business Barb’s Auto License in Snohomish. Her goal was to have every customer leave happy and satisfied. Word has it that she met her goal.

Barb rarely sat down. She loved participating in athletic activities --water aerobics, biking, cross country skiing and golfing. She even made a hole-in-one! When Barb wasn’t being active herself, she watched those who were. Always an avid sports fan, Barb cheered on the Seahawks, Mariners,
Snohomish Panthers and the Washington State Cougars!

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Florence McKinney, brother, Gene McKinney, and husband, Gary Bergeron. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Brian) Adams and Karen (Gary) Danklefsen and her son, Rick and her grandchildren, Reece (Jen) Merkley, Krista (Shane) Neighbors, and Lindsey (Matt) Buchanan. Barb was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Trey, Andi and Luke Merkley, Allison Barbara Neighbors, and Charlotte Buchanan.

Barb brought laughter and energy to everyone who has known her. Her sparkly smile, warm laughter, and huge heart will be truly missed. But Barb will never be forgotten. All her survivors will inherit their own special piece of Barbara Joan Bergeron and, they will be better off for it. If only the world could be populated with the likes of her.

The family would like to thank Aegis Living of West Seattle for all the love and care that you’ve given our mother over the past 5 years. She truly loved all of you!

A Celebration of Life for Barbara Bergeron will be held on August 27 from 2-4 PM at the Buzz Inn Steakhouse, 9900 Airport Way, Snohomish, WA.
