AppleSox, Lefties set for first rubber match of 2024 season

PORT ANGELES, Wash.  - The Wenatchee AppleSox and Port Angeles Lefties are set to face off in the first rubber match of the 2024 season tonight at Civic Field. The AppleSox, who saw their unbeaten run come to an end last night, will send Matthew DelVecchio to the mound for his second start of the summer. DelVecchio, who previously pitched for the Bellingham Bells in 2022, will look to bounce back after a tough outing last Saturday.

The Lefties will counter with Riley Ricken, who also struggled in his start last Saturday, surrendering seven runs on eight hits against the AppleSox. Port Angeles is coming off a come-from-behind victory last night, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the win.

Wenatchee's Joe Scheffler had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four singles, becoming the first AppleSox catcher to record a four-hit game since Carson Ohland in July 2023.

The AppleSox, who improved their performance with runners in scoring position last night, will look to their reigning WCL Player Of The Week, Max Hartman, to continue his hot streak. Hartman, an incoming junior at Washington State, has recorded five consecutive multi-hit games and is tied for the league lead in hits and total bases.

With both teams looking to gain an early advantage in the standings, tonight's rubber match promises to be a closely contested affair. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with live streaming available on wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv and radio coverage on kcsyfm.com.
