AppleSox bats explode in 13-2 rout, clinch series against NorthPaws

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Wenatchee AppleSox's bats came alive on Saturday night, propelling them to a decisive 13-2 victory over the Kamloops NorthPaws at Norbrock Stadium. The win clinched the series for the AppleSox, marking their fifth consecutive series triumph to start the season.

Cannon Peery led the offensive charge, driving in four runs and falling just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Peery's contributions included an RBI single in the first inning, a run-scoring double in the fourth, and a two-RBI triple in the ninth.

On the mound, Quincy Vassar picked up his first win of the summer, striking out five and allowing only two runs over six innings of work. The outing marked the 12th time in his last 17 starts spanning three summers that Vassar has pitched at least five innings. Braiden Boyd sealed the victory with three scoreless innings in relief, earning his first save of the season and his fourth over the past two years.

Entering the game, the AppleSox had scored the third-most runs in the West Coast League (WCL) but had struggled recently, tallying just 43 runs over their last 10 games with a .223 batting average. Saturday's offensive outburst marked their third double-digit scoring effort of the summer and their first since a 15-2 rout of Port Angeles on June 2.

The AppleSox broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning, coming within one run of matching their season-high for runs in a single frame. Joe Scheffler and Aidan Dougherty delivered RBI singles and executed a double steal, with Scheffler scoring on the play. Peery capped the inning with an RBI double.

Dougherty and Max Hartman also contributed to the offensive onslaught, with Dougherty tripling in a run in the sixth and Hartman following with an RBI single. Kade Benavidez then doubled in Hartman to extend the lead to 9-0.

The AppleSox will aim for their second sweep of the summer when they face the NorthPaws in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
