Planned water outage scheduled for southwest area of Leavenworth on Nov. 4

Posted

LEAVENWORTH – Water service for users in the southwest area of Leavenworth will be shut off on Nov. 4 to allow the city to test a portion of its water distribution system. The city anticipates the disruption will last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The test is a part of design finalization of the new Icicle Road water transmission main project, scheduled for construction in 2025. The project is expected to increase the capacity of the water distribution system, providing greater water pressure during peak hours and increasing the availability of “fire flow in a high fire risk community,”according to the city’s website.

The project will replace and upsize approximately 5,400 feet of existing water transmission main between the city’s groundwater well site on Icicle road to the intersection of US-2 and Mill Street. The transmission main will be upsized from 12 inches in diameter to 18 inches in diameter between the groundwater well site and the Icicle Road Reservoir, and upsized to 20 inches in diameter from the reservoir to the intersection of US-2 and Mill Street.

In order to continue serving water users, the city plans to keep the existing water main live during the 2025 construction until the new main is complete and ready for service.
