LEAVENWORTH – The Leavenworth Village Voices will celebrate their 42nd season with a traditional holiday concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Leavenworth’s Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, Snowy Owl Theater.
The performance, titled Christmas in the Mountains and Around the World, features a diverse collection of sacred and secular music that highlights the origins and traditions of Christmas celebrations from various countries, LVV President Allison Bergstrom said.
The Bavarian Brass, a longtime favorite of Village Voices audiences, will join as special guests.
“We have worked with them for many years, and our audience surveys always rate them really highly, so we're glad to have them, and we continue to just enjoy working together and making music together,”
The December 15 concert is the first in a series of three holiday concerts the group will perform.
This year’s program promises an eclectic mix of musical styles, including unique arrangements of familiar carols.
“I think the audience will really enjoy the variety and styles, different styles of music we've collected for this year,” she said.
“I am really proud of our sound and the technical quality of our singing,” Bergstrom said.
“This year we have some really challenging pieces and some really different arrangements of well known carols, and many of them are challenging, and I really feel very confident and proud of the program we've put together,” she said. “I know it will just enhance the Christmas joy and the holiday spirit for people who come to our concerts.”
“So we just really want to share the joy and the peace and the festive nature of the season to locals and visitors alike and we just invite them to come,” she said.
After recruiting efforts in the spring and summer, the group has grown to about 20 members.
There is even a family of three, a mom, dad and daughter who sing together in the choir. Plus the group’s director, Mindy Wall, has family in the group. Her husband and son both sing in the choir. Bergstrom said it's a great way for families to spend time together.
Nicholas Colletto, a master’s student at Central Washington University, will serve as accompanist and also sing with the choir for a cappella numbers.
The Village Voices, a non-profit community choir, is known for its high-quality sound and technical expertise.
Tickets for the Dec. 15 concert are available at the door or online at leavenworthvillagevoices.org.
