Leavenworth Lions Club pancake breakfast returns with eco-friendly practices

Posted

LEAVENWORTH –  In honor of Earth Day, the Leavenworth Lions Club announced that it will be taking steps to reduce waste when serving community pancake breakfasts in Lions Club Park this year.

From May through September each year, the Leavenworth Lions Club serves an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The proceeds support local and international Lions Club projects, including sight, hearing, and diabetes education and support, providing assistance to local food banks, and providing scholarships.

While it has prioritized recycling in years past, the local chapter wanted to seek out more ways to minimize their environmental impact. After conferring with the local environmental nonprofit Waste Loop and Winton Manufacturing (MFG) Compost Works, the club will switch to using compostable items, including plates, cups, and eating utensils.

According to the local chapter, the move intends to meet one of the goals of Lions Club International: “The environment is our home. The earth sustains human life. Our environment is more than a background, it’s our home. And we’re committed to caring for it.”

The Lions Club pancake breakfast, which runs from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays, will return to Lions Club Park on May 11.
