Leavenworth adjusts recycling center hours, yard waste pickup this fall

Posted

LEAVENWORTH —  Schedule changes for recycling and yard waste in Leavenworth are coming this fall.

At the Leavenworth Recycling Center, winter hours will go into effect Oct. 3. It will be open Wednesdays 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is not currently taking yard waste, but the City of Leavenworth will offer curbside pickup to residents over three Thursdays in October.

According to the city, the curbside pickups are scheduled for Oct. 8, 15 and 22. Residents can set out four bags and/or four four-foot bound bundles each week for city crews to pick up. Place the bags and bundles on the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day.

Residents can set out a combination of bags and bundles, but the total combined cannot exceed four per week, according to the city. Each recyclable paper bag should weigh 35 pounds or less. The city says it will not pick up furniture, appliances, dirt, rocks, sod, or construction debris.

Winton MFG Compost Works also offers a curbside yard waste pickup for residents within city limits for $20.95 a month. According to its website, Winton MFG collects yard waste from mowing, trimming, raking and weeding. Residents can bag yard debris in brown yard waste bags or leave it loose in the container. It does not accept plastic bags, pet waste, food waste or trash.

Winton MFG picks up every Friday in October, as well as in other months of the year. More information can be found at wintonmfg.com.
