WENATCHEE — Friends of Lake Wenatchee Y Camp has established its first endowment fund with three founding gifts totaling $20,000, the organization announced Sept. 10.

The Camp Magic Fund will be held as a permanent fund intended to support efforts to expand access to Lake Wenatchee Y Camp. The Friends group's board of directors will oversee spending and investments in partnership with the Community Foundation of North Central Washington.

The founding gifts came from the Armbrust and Richmond Family, Scott and Katie Hall and Jessica Meehan, according to the organization.

“This endowment represents the generosity and vision of donors who understand that access to camp changes lives,” Friends of Lake Wenatchee Y Camp co-founder Bonnie Hilory said. “The Camp Magic Fund is just the beginning; as additional contributions are secured over time, we will be able to ensure that financial circumstances never stand between a child and the Lake Wenatchee Y Camp experience.”

Income generated by the fund will support initiatives selected by the Friends group's board to expand access to camp. Additional donations raised for the endowment will be added to the fund held by the Community Foundation.

“We are deeply grateful to our founding donors for believing in this vision,” board President Steve Rolfe said. “Their generosity establishes a permanent legacy that will support campers for generations to come.”

Friends of Lake Wenatchee Y Camp is a nonprofit organization formed to support the camp's continued operation and preserve its history. Its objectives include raising money for outdoor environmental education and recreation programs, establishing campership funding and helping maintain access for youth and families regardless of income.

Lake Wenatchee Y Camp was founded in 1927 and has operated for 99 years. Friends of Lake Wenatchee Y Camp is a separate organization from YMCA of the USA and Wenatchee Valley YMCA.
