City of Leavenworth postpones water outage for Icicle Road

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — A water outage for Oct. 28 on Icicle Road has been postponed. The City of Leavenworth is still anticipating an extended outage next week, but an exact date has yet to be determined.

“The contractor encountered an issue that must be resolved before the new water main is connected. We still anticipate an extended water outage sometime next week and will provide an update as soon as feasible,” the city wrote in an update.

The extended outage is planned for the neighborhoods along Icicle Road, from the Icicle Road Bridge to East Leavenworth Road, as part of the Icicle Road Transmission Main Project. According to the city, the shutdown involves closing two key valves, which is critical for connecting the new main. The outage was expected to last approximately eight hours.

Questions can be directed to the city's Public Works Department at (509) 668-3577. Residents can also sign up for email alerts here.

The ongoing Icicle Road Transmission Main Project aims to increase the capacity of the water distribution system, providing greater water pressure during peak flow and increasing the availability of flow for the event of a fire. The work involves installing a new and larger water main between the groundwater well site on Icicle Road and the roundabout with US-2, and from the roundabout to the US-2 and Mill Street intersection.
