Chelan PUD plans five days of activities for Public Power Week

Posted

WENATCHEE — Chelan County PUD will welcome customers to its service center Oct. 5–9 for Public Power Week, with daily activities ranging from line truck demonstrations to help with utility bills and household water leaks.

The events run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at 203 Olds Station Road in Wenatchee. Each day has a different focus, giving visitors a chance to meet PUD employees and learn about services that extend beyond electricity.

Sarah DeLozier, the PUD’s customer service and dispatch supervisor, outlined the plans for commissioners Sept. 21. She said the week is an opportunity to celebrate the customers who own the public utility.

Activities begin Oct. 5 with parks and fish and wildlife programs. Visitors can learn about local recreation opportunities and the PUD’s habitat work, see wildlife pelts and get information about park passes.

The Oct. 6 program focuses on reducing utility costs. Staff will discuss energy-saving measures, efficiency rebates, income-qualified programs and the PUD’s 25% bill assistance program.

Oct. 7 is aimed at children and families. Visitors can climb aboard a line truck and fish and wildlife boat, see electrical safety demonstrations and meet Rocky, the Discovery Center mascot. Line crew demonstrations are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Water and wastewater services take the spotlight Oct. 8. Demonstrations will show customers how to test for a household water leak and how much water a dripping faucet can waste. Staff will also offer conservation tips and information about wastewater operations.

The week concludes Oct. 9 with a self-guided look at the PUD’s history and its plans for the future. Visitors can enter a drawing for a behind-the-scenes tour of Rocky Reach Dam.

The PUD plans treats, activities and giveaways throughout the week.
