CHELAN COUNTY — Preliminary results of the Aug. 4 Primary show overwhelming support for Sandra Arechiga in the Chelan County Clerk race.

Early counts show Arechiga as the number one contender with 39.12 percent of the vote (5,934 votes). Incumbent Clerk Marty Young, who was elected to the position in 2022, is second in the lead with 30 percent of the vote (4,553 votes).

Samantha Thompson, Records Administrator for Chelan County Clerk’s Office, trails with 16.14 percent of the vote (2,490 votes). Charlene Beck, a 35-year career court reporter, follows behind with 14.46 percent (2,193 votes).

The top two candidates will continue on to the November election. The elected candidate will serve a four-year term.

“To everyone who believed in me and supported me throughout this journey, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am truly humbled and honored by the incredible support I’ve received. I promise to continue working hard, serving with integrity, and giving my very best every step of the way,” Arechiga said in a statement to Ward Media.

“I’m excited to see the rest of the results and grateful for every vote of confidence. Thank you all so much for your encouragement, your trust, and your support. I couldn’t have done this without you,” she added.

Arechiga has 12 years of experience working for Chelan County Clerk’s Office; she spent six years as Jury administrator and currently serves as a Family Law Court Facilitator.

Young, Beck and Thompson did not immediately respond for comment.

The County Clerk is the administrative and financial officer of Superior Court; the clerk position is an Executive branch position. As an independent elected official, the Clerk reserves for the public unrestrained access to a fair, accurate, and independently established record of the opinions, decisions, and judgments of the court, according to the Chelan County Clerk’s Office.
