Cascade High School cross country seniors take a final lap at Enchantment Park

Posted

LEAVENWORTH - It was Cascade High School’s “Senior Night” at Enchantment Park on Tuesday, October 15, and eleven twelfth graders took the line for the last time in Leavenworth as Kodiaks.

The race, held in their honor, was a dual meet versus the Eastmont Wildcats. And the CHS seniors did not disappoint. For the girls, Grace McDevitt, Caroline Menna, and Alice Farrell took first, second, and fourth, respectively. Napiqua Gibbs and Harper Baker finished in the top 15; Page Runions and Reese Mathers in the top 25. For the boys, it was Ben Jerome and Cruz Martinez in second and sixth, followed by Jesper Koonstra and Mel Northrup, both in the top 30.

The 5k race, which wound its way through the scenic park trails and over Blackbird Island under an iron gray sky, drew a large crowd of families, friends, cheerleaders, and classmates, all eager to salute the accomplishments of the Class of 2025.

The seniors—many of whom have been running for Cascade’s cross-country team since their freshman year—were celebrated individually beside their parents at a post-race ceremony.

“This is such a special night for our seniors,” remarked head coach Dayle Massey, who is also in his last year at CHS ahead of retirement. “They’ve worked hard for years, and tonight is all about celebrating their dedication, their teamwork, and the journey they’ve been on.”

Led by senior captains Martinez, Farrell, Jerome, and Menna, the Kodiak harriers travel to the Caribou Trail League Championships hosted by the Omak Pioneers on Thursday, October 24.

Caroline Menna is an intern for Ward Media and a senior at Cascade High School. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Cascade High School Publications Group.
