AppleSox stumble at home, fall 10-1 to NightOwls

WENATCHEE- The Wenatchee AppleSox suffered a rare home defeat Saturday night, falling 10-1 to the Nanaimo NightOwls at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the AppleSox and marked only their eighth home defeat this season.

The usually potent Wenatchee offense, which had scored 10 runs the previous night, was held to just five hits and a single run. Defensive miscues and control issues plagued the AppleSox, as they committed two errors and issued nine walks over the course of the game.

Jake Larson provided a bright spot for Wenatchee, going 2-for-3 with a double, a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Larson scored the team's lone run in the second inning, briefly tying the game at 1-1.

Nanaimo broke the tie in the third inning with a two-out rally and never looked back. The NightOwls blew the game open with a four-run sixth inning, effectively putting the contest out of reach.

The loss drops Wenatchee's record to 33-16 overall and 15-8 in the second half of the season. The two teams will face off again Sunday night in the rubber match of the series.

Despite the setback, the AppleSox maintain a strong position in the league standings. Sunday's game will feature a "Hawaiian Night" promotion, with one fan in attendance winning a trip to Hawaii.
