AppleSox fall to Riverhawks 13-11 despite seven-run rally

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee AppleSox suffered a 13-11 defeat against the Edmonton Riverhawks on Tuesday night, despite a seven-run rally in the fifth inning at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.

Wenatchee (22-12, 4-3 second half) found themselves in a 6-0 hole for the second consecutive game before mounting a comeback. However, their offensive production was limited to just three hits outside of the explosive fifth inning.

Max Hartman provided the offensive highlight for the AppleSox, launching a grand slam in the fifth for his second home run of the season. Aidan Dougherty, returning to action for the first time since June 30, reached base four times with two hits and two walks.

Edmonton (20-11, 2-2 second half) maintained consistent offensive pressure, scoring in all but two innings. The Riverhawks quickly erased Wenatchee's brief lead, tying the game in the sixth before pulling ahead for good with a four-run seventh inning.

The AppleSox tied their single-game record for walks drawn in 2024 with 13 free passes, but were unable to capitalize fully on the opportunities.

Wenatchee's fifth-inning surge began with Hartman driving in the first three runs. Jonathan Fitz added a sacrifice fly, and Cam Hoiland tied the game with an RBI single. Jake Larson then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, completing the seven-run outburst.

A late rally in the ninth inning, featuring a two-run double by Dougherty and a two-run single from Cannon Peery, proved insufficient for the AppleSox.

The two teams will face off again on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. local time. The AppleSox are running a "bring your bestie" promotion, offering a buy-one-get-one ticket deal at the gate.
