The Bavarian Village Business Association (BVBA) met on Tuesday, March 5 at the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum. After conducting a short business meeting, the members enjoyed a tour of this fabulous non-profit museum. The collection contains 6,000 nutcrackers with some dating back hundreds of years. An exhibit of Aboriginal and Native American nutting stones, dating back thousands of years, reminds of the importance of nuts in the ancient and modern human diet. Don't forget that July 6 is Nutcracker Day in Leavenworth, featuring a contest to create a nutcracker in a unique way, capable of cracking a hazelnut. A $1,000 grand prize will be awarded, among other prizes. Please see the website for details, www.nutcrackermuseum.com/NutcrackerDay.htm.

Alicia McKee, the new Managing Director of Icicle Arts, spoke briefly about the new mission of Icicle Arts in establishing downtown Leavenworth as a home for the arts. She also spoke about the Icicle Arts After School Art Program (ASAP), offering children, ages 7-11, affordable after school art lessons from volunteer professional artists. The classes run in five week sessions and are held once a week at the River Haus, at Barn Beach Reserve. The current session is full. The next session, "Print Making and Charcoal Drawing" begins May 2. For more information please see the website, www.iciclearts.org/a-s-a-p/.

The annual Easter Egg hunt will be held, March 31, Easter Sunday, at Enchantment Park. Three bicycles will be offered as prizes for various age groups. Thousands of eggs filled with treats and surprises will be scattered for the hunt. Bring the kids for an afternoon of wonderful community fun. BVBA member businesses have donated the bicycles and the treats. Coupons and other promotions will also be given away during the festivities.

The BVBA's Rediscover Leavenworth event is scheduled for April 8 to June 6. Residents of Leavenworth are invited to discover participating local businesses and fill out free entries to a drawing, with a grand prize $1,000 travel voucher, as well as many additional prizes donated from businesses throughout Leavenworth.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Leavenworth International Dance Festival on June 29 and 30. The BVBA is made up of members of the Leavenworth business community who have an interest in fostering solid relationships with the residents of our beautiful town, as well as our business neighbors. We actively look for ways to build bridges and offer helping hands. Over the past few years we have donated beautiful log tables for the park, have conducted food, coat and school supply drives, and so much more. We welcome all Leavenworth businesses to join us. The next BVBA meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m., on April 2, 2013, at King Ludwig's Restaurant.
