Bavarian Village Business Association Submitted by Sherri Hosieni

The Bavarian Village Business Association (BVBA) met on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at King Ludwig's Restaurant. Kevin Rieke, president of the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce board, engaged members in a discussion about ideas, suggestions and areas of interest to be addressed at the annual chamber board retreat. The BVBA greatly appreciates the opportunity to provide input and insight into the planning of the coming year's events and promotions. We encourage our members to become involved with the many volunteer opportunities available with the Chamber of Commerce.

The BVBA is made up of members of the Leavenworth business community who have an interest in fostering solid relationships with the residents of our beautiful town, as well as our business neighbors. We actively look for ways to build bridges and offer helping hands. Some of our projects over the past couple of years have included the donation of beautiful log tables in the park on Front Street, financial support for the new business signage project for the side street areas in Leavenworth, food drives for the Community Cupboard, swimming lessons for kids in the local school district, school supply drives, coat drives, providing pizza to city work crews, and our annual Rediscover Your Leavenworth event. We do not have a huge budget, but we have big hearts and we care deeply about Leavenworth. Our annual dues are only $50. We welcome all Leavenworth businesses to join us.

Arlene Wagner, owner of The Nutcracker Museum, was welcomed back from her recent exhibition of nutcrackers in Hong Kong. It is an honor for Leavenworth to have such a wonderful ambassador. The Nutcracker Museum is sponsoring Nutcracker Day on July 6. There will be a contest for the best working nutcracker, with a grand prize of $1,000 for best design. Check out the website for details. www.nutcrackermuseum.com/NutcrackerDay.html.

Ken Kohnhorst, organizer of the Annual Leavenworth International Dance Festival, provided a festival update. This joyful celebration of dance from around the world will be held June 29 and 30. The lineup includes Savoy Swing Club, Malamalama-O-Ka Mahina Hawaiian Dancers, TuseyPeru, Ukranian Dance Ensemble Barvinok, Jacquelina's Dancers of Spain, Edelweiss Tanz Group, and the Eclectic Cloggers. Mark your calendars for this popular, free festival. If you are interested in being a sponsor for the festival, please contact Ken Kohnhorst at graphicone@charger.net. www.leavenworthinternationalfestival.com.

Ken also announced that tickets are still available for the Rotary Club raffle. They may be purchased at The Taffy Shop or via the website, www.leavenworthrotaryfest.com/tickets.html. Win a trip for two, to Bavaria, Germany and support the efforts of this important non-profit community service organization.

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held March 31 at Lions Club Park. It will be happy springtime fun for all with age appropriate eggs and prizes, as well as the grand prize of three bicycles. Coupons and promotions from participating local businesses will be given away.

The Annual Rediscover Leavenworth event is scheduled from April 8 to June 6. Residents of Leavenworth are invited to discover participating local businesses and fill out free entries to a drawing, with a grand prize of a $1,000 travel voucher, as well as many additional prizes donated from businesses throughout Leavenworth.
