The Cascade baserunner gets back quickly to avoid being tagged out.
The 2015 season of Cascade Kodiak baseball came to end last Saturday, as the team lost to Cashmere in the District final. Normally, the second place team would be moving on in the playoffs, but with the four team CTL, only the champion advances.

Cascade finished off the regular season at home against Cashmere on May 12, losing 7-5. Austin Murdock got into some trouble early as the Bulldogs went up 7-0. Blake Vandel came in and shut down Cashmere allowing the Kodiaks to come back.

It was 7-5 going into the seventh as it seemed Cascade could rally. But Cashmere Coach Jeff Carlson brought in his ace, Mason Elliot, to shut the door.

That put Cascade in the districts with a game against Chelan, a team that had beaten them two of three times this season. The Kodiaks and the Goats faced off last Saturday in Cashmere. Austin Murdock helped pitch the Kodiaks to the 6-4 win. Nolan Pulse pitched in relief.

Kodiaks have many State hopefuls heading to Districts
Cascade may not have the numbers like Cashmere, but they sure have the star power when it comes to track meets. The Bulldogs dominated both the boys and girls competitions at the CTL Championships last Friday in Leavenworth.

The Cashmere boys were first with 95 points, followed by Chelan 77, Cascade 53 and Omak 36. The Bulldog girls won with 95 points, followed by Chelan 65, Cascade 61 and Omak 39.

The Parton girls came up big again. Maddy won the 100, 200 and 300 hurdles, while sister Ashley won the 100 hurdles and triple jump. Erin Mullins easily won the 1600 while Jennifer Novikoff won the 3200. Freshman Lauren Richardson was second in the 100 and third in the 200.

Unfortunately, the girls 4x100 team jumped the start and was disqualified.

Cascade girls tennis team wins CTL Championship in dominating fashion
The Cascade Kodiak girls' tennis team continued their domination at the Caribou Trail League Championships last Saturday in Omak. Six girls have qualified for the District Tournament Saturday in Cashmere.

Taylor Kelly won the singles while teammate Kellie Kuch was second place. In doubles, Katie Schiefelbein and Madison Colvin took second place while Karely Ojeda and Anna Smith were fourth place.

Cascade boys and girls compete for State berths in golf
With only four teams in the Caribou Trail League, berths to state golf are few. Only the top five boys advance to State, even though there are likely 12 boys deserving. The state qualifier was May 19 at Gamble Sands in Brewster. Results were not available before press time.

Cascade comes in as the hot team in the league, even though they stumbled in their final match. Cascade played a tri-team match on May 13 in Chelan with Chelan and Omak. Omak was the winner with a 338. Cascade shot 355 and Chelan 361.

Logan Nielson had solid round, shooting 86. Nathan Wells shot 88, Tyler Bain 90, Gunnar Stubblefield 91. Alex Woods and Tim Wells shot 94. Omak's Brandon Abrahamson was medalist with an 81.

"I think we showed up at Chelan a little too relaxed. We had been playing good and practicing well. I felt we should have won this one," said Randy Alexander, Cascade head coach. "It would have been nice to go undefeated in all of our matches, but my focus is getting these six boys ready for 18 holes at Gamble Sands."

Cascade heads to District Playoffs as CTL second seed
With losses to Cashmere and Omak last week, the Cascade Kodiak softball team was forced to settle for second place in the Caribou Trail League. Even though Cashmere plays Chelan twice this week, the girls can only tie for league title if Chelan sweeps. But since Cashmere beat Cascade two of three, they are the number one seed.

Cascade is 5-4 in league, Cashmere 5-2, Omak 4-5 and Chelan 2-5.

The Kodiaks played at Cashmere on May 12, losing 12-5. The Bulldogs put the early pressure on the Kodiaks with six first inning runs on three hits, two walks and two hit batters. They added two more in the second go up 8-1.

Cascade added a run in the third, but the Bulldogs answered with four runs increase their lead to 12-2. The Kodiaks rallied in the fifth for three runs on two hits, a walk and error. Analia Vasquez had a three RBI double.

Cascade girls avenge loss to Omak with victory over Pioneers
You might imagine the Cascade girls tennis team had revenge on their mind when Omak came to Leavenworth last week. When the two teams met on May 1 in Omak, the Pioneers won 3-2, snapping the Cascade girls' 25 match winning streak.

But when Omak came to Leavenworth on May 5, Cascade turned the tables, winning 3-2.

"This still sets us up to be league champs or co-league champs for the girls. The determining match was the number two doubles," said Mark Hassinger, Cascade head coach. "The first match, Omak beat us and the next time we got revenge. Karely Ojeda and Anna Smith played very well the second time around and snatched a straight set victory. The other matches were the same each time."

Taylor Kelly and Kellie Kuch won at singles, while number three singles and number one doubles lost.

"Omak and Cascade match up very evenly and we are anxious to see what the district tournament produces," Hassinger said.

Cascade soccer season ends with 1-0 to Cashmere
Putting the ball into the back of the net had been difficult for the Kodiaks all season. Even with their often stellar defense, it is really hard to win when you don't score. The season of the Cascade Kodiaks came to end last week with a 1-0 loss to Cashmere in the CTL District Playoffs.

Cascade had their chances in the first half, on May 5 in Cashmere. Corner kicks, free kicks, but just could get that deciding kick into the net. Making matters worse, forward Eduardo Barriagan, perhaps the fastest Kodiak, was knocked of the game with hamstring injury.

Kodiak softball team playing well as season winds down
What a difference a week makes. Last week, the Cascade softball team was reeling a bit after losing to Chelan to open the league season, then split a competitive double header with Cashmere. Looming ahead was playing at Omak, another tough team.

But the Cascade girls rose to the challenge and crushed the Pioneers 14-2 on May 5.

"This was a dominate performance for the Kodiaks. We played good defense, hit the ball well and ran the bases aggressively. I like our chances when we play well in all three phases of the game. Omak is a solid team. We played better today. Now back to practice to continue to improve," said Ken Krous, Cascade head coach.

Kodiaks split double header with Chelan, costing them a chance to play for league title
After a solid 1-0 victory over Cashmere, the Kodiaks seemed to be playing better, with maybe a chance to meet Cashmere again for the league title. But first, they needed to beat Omak once and Chelan twice.

On May 5, the Kodiaks took care of business against Omak, winning 14-5. Last Friday, the team played a double header at Chelan, needing the wins to play for the league title. But as it turned out, poor play ruled the day, and Cascade split the much needed double header.

At 7-1 with a game to play, Cashmere is the regular season champion. Cascade is 5-3. Chelan 4-4.

"In reality, that does sting. I am disappointed we gift wrapped and handed them a league trophy. But the things we have going on are bigger than a league championship," said Cascade Head Coach Mike Kelly. "I am hopeful we come out of this in a positive, life lesson kind of way. If we can do that, it is far better than any league championship.

Kodiak golfers remain unbeaten with close victory over Omak
It's been turning into a great season for the Cascade Kodiak boys golf team. The team stayed unbeaten in match play with solid 355-360 win at Omak on May 7. Cascade Head Coach Randy Alexander said the team played well considering the less than favorable conditions.

"Knowing we would have to play very good golf on very rough conditions, the boys pulled it out with a narrow win. The course has not yet recovered from the winter with the greens being very bumpy and damaged. But we all had to play on it and it worked out," Alexander said.

League play begins for the Cascade fastpitch softball team
Coming into league play, Cascade Head Coach Ken Krous said the four teams were pretty evenly matched. And after the first week, that appears to the case. Cascade lost a heartbreaker to Chelan in their league oper, surrendering five runs in the seventh to lose 6-2. Then, split a very competitive double header with Cashmere.

Cascade is now 1-2 in league and 7-7 overall.

The Kodiaks hosted Chelan on April 28. The Kodiaks broke open the scoring in the third on two errors and a walk. It could have been more, but a popup ended the inning. Cascade led 1-0. Chelan did not get their first hit until the fifth inning, but could not score.

The Goats finally tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth on three consecutive hits. Cascade had runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, but the next three hitters popped out.

The wheels came off in the seventh, as Chelan broke the game open, scoring five runs on three hits, two costly errors and a wild pitch. Cascade tried to respond in the bottom of the frame, but could not close the gap, losing 6-2.
