Cascade track team finishes the season at State meet in Cheney
|Cascade qualified four athletes for the State 1A track meet in Cheney last Friday and Saturday. The boys team finished with only five points, good enough to tied for 32nd place. The girls scored one point, and tied for 47th place. |
Hoquiam was the champion for the boys with 71 points. Cedar Park Christian won the girls with 67 points.
The best finish for the boys was junior Tyler Lee, who finished sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.08. Lee was seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.06. Sophomore Dennis Merritt finished ninth in the 100 with a time of 11.70, well above his norm. His season best was 11.22, which would have been good enough for second. He was 15th in the 200 with a time of 24.54. Again, his season best of 23.26 would have won State.
Freshman Maddy Parton had her best results in the 300 hurdles, where she finished eighth with a time of 48.40. She was 13th in the 100 (13.50) and 12th in the 200 (27.08). Had she run near her season's best, she would have finished in the top five. But certainly the future is bright for young miss Parton. Senior Mara Cummings was 10th in the 400 (1:00) and 11th in the 800 (2:26).
