Golfers open the 2013
season against Warden
|The Cascade Golf team began the season with a non-league match at Warden, at the Sage Hills Golf Course on March 16. Head Coach Randy Alexander said it was good to get out on the golf course and shake off the dust. Because the Leavenworth course is not open, the team has been practicing at Highlander and Rock Island. |
The Cascade boys won 219-227 over nine holes. Freshmen Tyler Bain and Nate Wells shot 48 and 53 respectively to lead the Kodiaks. Connor Hayes of Warden was medalist with a 46.
"This was our first golf played on a course. So I was very proud of them and for the rest of the team," Alexander said. "Other freshman to watch will be Gunnar Stubblefield and Logan Nielson. I am very excited about these young boys. They will be something to watch in the future. Our scores will come down as the season goes. We will begin to practice at our home course on April 1."
Tyler Watson shot 58 and Nick Willet 60 for the boys. For the girls, who do not have enough players for a team score, Courtnee Cook shot 58 and Jasmine Neubauer 60. Rachel Crow of Warden was medalist with a 56.
"We are all really anxious to get out and play. We went to Rock Island last Thursday in a driving hailstorm, but at least we got to play," he said. "Our next match will be at Quincy on Thursday, March 28 for our first league match."
