The Cascade Kodiak Track Team only returns one senior this year, so it will be a fairly young squad. Head Coach Rob Rosenau said he is looking forward to a great season.

"We expect the athletes to work hard and do their best. This is a building year, but we could be very competitive, especially the boys team," Rosenau said.

Top returners include senior Mara Cummings in the 800, junior Derek Crites in the shot put. Junior Tyler Lee in the 100 and hurdles, sophomore Dennis Merritt in the 100, 200 and long jump and sophomore Noax Wood in the discus.

"It is a little early to tell about the newcomers, but Maddie Parton had a successful eight grade season. Daniel Olmstead appears very strong," he said. "Overall, it look like we have a lot of good, young performers. Only time will tell their potential."

Cashmere is still considered the league favorite, for both boys and girls, he said. All the teams in the league return some outstanding athletes. Numbers and depth is the name of the game.

"This year, our boys numbers should make us competitive but our youthfulness may hold us back," he said. "You never know how the freshman are going to perform when they step onto the big stage."

Cascade's season begins March 19 as the Kodiaks play host to Cashmere, Okanogan and Tonasket.
