The wrestling season came to an end for two Cascade wrestlers at the Regional Wrestling Tournament in Chelan last weekend. Senior Nikita Stata, wrestling at 182, lost both his matches, while sophomore Bernardo Maravilla (220) finished fifth, and is an alternate to State.

Stata was pinned by sophomore Markus Goldbach of Freeman in the first round in his first match. Goldbach went on to place second in the division. In his second match, Stata lost 14-2 to sophomore Cade Wallace of Quincy.

"It was a hard way to end the season. His leadership will be missed next season," said Josh Arnold, Cascade head coach, of Stata.

Maravilla won by pin in the second round over sophomore Ian O'Brien of Medical Lake in his first match. In the Regional semifinals, Maravilla lost by pin in the first round to sophomore Teigan Glidewell of Freeman. In the consolation round, with a trip to State on the line, Maravilla lost by pin in the first round to junior Adrian Urias of Brewster. To finish off the tournament, Maravilla pinned sophomore Ian Allen of Quincy in the second round to grab fifth place.

"Bernardo will be ready if we get the call that one of the top four in our region get injured in practice this week, but most likely the year is over," he said. "Bernardo had two good wins in his four matches. His losses will build resolve to succeed for next season. He is ready to build strength with Coach Coffin. I look forward to seeing him compete in football and wrestling the next two years."
