Cascade senior Sierra Guthrie lines up a jumper in a recent game at CHS. The Kodiaks return to action this week with a game at Quincy on Thursday and home game against Tonasket on Saturday.
Before Christmas, the Kodiaks hit the road to play unbeaten Brewster. On Dec. 21, Cascade lost their second league game 71-48 to the Bears.
"They had a girl transfer in that is a good ballplayer. That's an added element. They are a solid team," said Cascade Head Coach Todd Fraker, of the Bears. "They played physical, crashed the boards. Their role players did a nice job of doing the dirty work. The other girls did a nice job of shooting the ball."
Brewster (4-0, 8-0) was led by Chandler Smith, who had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Monica Landdeck had 22. Junior Gabby Brulotte had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Kodiaks.
The Bears led 18-11 in the first quarter and 37-21 at the half. Brewster expanded their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Cascade 16-7. The Kodiak had a solid fourth quarter, outscoring Brewster 20-18, but it was not enough.
"I think we responded OK. We are fairly physical. We had some positives in the game," he said. "We were good from the free throw line. We had some moments where we played well, but were down 15-20 points. The girls played hard."
Cascade (1-2, 5-2) shot 29 percent from the field while Brewster shot 38 percent. The Kodiaks were 13-for-15 from the free throw line. Cascade had 23 turnovers versus 13 for the Bears.
On Dec. 28 and 29, Cascade played Overlake and Northwest in the Cascade Holiday Tournament. Results were not available before press time.
Tomorrow, the team travels to Quincy (0-4, 2-6).
"We're 1-2 in league. We've had two rough road games against two of he best teams in the state. No shame losing to those teams on the road," he said. "Two of the toughest games are over. We want to get our legs back under us, try to create some momentum and peak toward the end of the season."
On Saturday, Cascade hosts Tonasket (0-4, 1-7). Next Tuesday, Omak (0-4, 2-8) comes to Leavenworth.
