Like most of Eastern Washington, Chelan County votes Republican
Chelan County once again proved to have more people voting for the Republican Party candidates than their opposing Democratic candidates in the federal races this year.
As of Election Day, Nov. 6, 2012 40,293 residents were registered to vote in Chelan County. According to the Chelan County Auditor's website, 57.86 percent of voters turned in a ballot.
Almost 40 percent of the voters (9,093 people as of Tuesday night) in the Chelan County voted for Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Over 58 percent of them (13,467 people) voted for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, according to the Chelan County Auditor's Office.
The overall state vote for President was closer than Chelan County and that more people voted for Obama. In the state of Washington, 55.51 percent of the voters (1,356,901 people) voted for Obama and Biden while only 42.25 percent (1,032,729 people) voted for Romney and Ryan, according to the Washington Secretary of State website.
Reports showed the popular votes were even closer for nation than they were for Washington State and Chelan County. The popular vote showed Obama had 50 percent of the votes and Romney had 49 percent. However, for the electoral vote, Obama beat Romney by more than 100 electoral votes.
Both in the state and county, around 1 percent of the people voted for Gary Johnson and James P. Cray, the Libertarian Party Nominee.
The majority of Chelan County voters once again voted Republican for the United States Senator. Maria Cantwell, who prefers the Democratic Party, received 45.97 percent of the votes from Chelan County. Michael Baumgartner, who prefers the Republican Party, received over 54 percent of the votes from Chelan County.
Compared to the state as a whole, Chelan County voted quite differently. Nearly 60 percent of the voters (1,442,119 people) in Washington State chose Cantwell over Baumgartner. Baumgartner received 40.19 percent of the vote.
The other federal race was for Congressional District 8 U.S. Representative, which was a multi-county race.
The Chelan County Auditor website shows almost 67 percent of the people who voted in Chelan County chose Dave Reichert, who prefers the Republican Party, over Karen Porterfield, who prefers the Democratic party. In Chelan County 14,958 people voted for Reichert and 7,481 people voted for Porterfield.
Chelan, Douglas, King, Kittitas, and Pierce counties were able to vote for the Congressional District 8 U.S. Representative. Overall 59.73 percent (137,729 people) voted for Reichert compared to 92,843 people who voted for Porterfield. In all five counties the majority of the voters chose Reichert, according to vote.wa.gov.
