Arden L. Fries

I was born in Seattle, Wash. in 1925, to Arden L. Fries Sr. and Lena G. (Collins) Fries. I began Kindergarten in Cashmere, Wash., but shortly after moved to Southern California, where dad purchased a fruit and vegetable market. In 1941, our family moved back to Cashmere and purchased an orchard two miles east of town. I graduated from Cashmere High School in 1944, and four years later, married Janette Reister. We had two sons, Charles and Robin. I loved being a part of the community. I served for six years as a Blue Star Director, a Director on the Cashmere School Board for six years, and was a committee man of Farm Home Administration. I was a former Director of Rotary and Deacon of the Presbyterian Church. I enjoyed working with Cub and Boy Scouts. I was an avid reader and loved to travel. I had a real passion for photography. In 1954, I had an antique automobile part business, called Obsolete Ford Parts, and I loved to work on old cars. In addition, I was a real estate agent for my sister's agency, Apple Vale Realty. From 1954 to recent, I have operated orchards in the Cashmere area under the name Fries and Sons Inc. I loved being an orchardist and never regretted getting up early to go to work. Arden is survived by his wife, Janette; two sons, Charles and his wife, Donetta of Cashmere, Wash. and Robin and his wife, Joneen of Prescott, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Wendy of Rock Island, Wash. and Rob and his wife, Angel of Cashmere, WA; and six great-grandchildren, Ashton and Sierra of Rock Island, Wash., and Tifanie, Tyler, Tristan and Keili of Cashmere, Wash. Arden was preceded in death by his parents, Arden Sr. and Lena Fries; and his sister, Ruby.

A special message from Arden: To my orchard friends: I have been in agriculture all my life and have had it as good as it gets. I tried to be fair with all the people I came in contact with "Catch up with me later!" Special thanks to Dr. Patrick Lynch, Annette and Hospice Services, Dan the Barber and Uncle Chester Collins. Funeral Services were held Feb. 22, 2013, at Monitor Methodist Church. Arlen was laid to rest in the Cashmere Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Jones & Jones-Betz Funeral Home.
