Leona Marie (Brownlow) Avey
Leona Marie (Brownlow) Avey, 94, a lifelong resident of the Wenatchee Valley and a former resident of Leavenworth died Friday, October 26, 2012 at her daughter's home in Wenatchee.
She was born Leona Marie Brownlow on January 11, 1918 to Willis and Grace (Hayes) Brownlow at Leavenworth, where she grew up and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1937. On September 24, 1938 she married Jim Avey at Wenatchee, where they made their home and raised their family. In 1967 they moved to Cashmere, where she worked as a sorter for Blue Star Growers and in 1974 they returned to Wenatchee, where she was employed by Washington Fruit for eight years. Following her husband's death in May of 1996 she moved to Leavenworth and later returned to Wenatchee.
Leona is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Kenneth Anderson of Wenatchee; son, Stephen Avey of Wenatchee; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Avey; daughter, Judith Ann Kaupp; son, Michael Avey; brother, Loren Brownlow and sisters, Esther Regan and Joy Daniels.
A Funeral Service of Commemoration to celebrate the life of Leona M. Avey will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel with private family burial at the Wenatchee Cemetery.
