Leslie P. “Les” Tiedeman

Leslie P. "Les" Tiedeman, 89, a resident of Leavenworth for the past 28 years, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1923 to Alfred and Emma (Petersen) Tiedeman at La Moure, N.D. Les was raised at Lisbon, N.D, where he graduated high school. He then went with a buddy to Minneapolis where he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During WWII, he served in the South Pacific. After receiving his honorable discharge, Les went to Alaska and worked for the Road Commission for two seasons building the Alaska State Highway. On Feb. 21, 1947 he married Jeanne M. Hoefling at Fort Lewis. They made their home in Sumner where Les worked as an enforcement officer for the State Department of Fisheries. After 16 years, he bought and operated Highland Sea Foods, a wholesale/retail sea food store at Shoreline. After retiring in 1984, they built a home and moved to their property up Eagle Creek where they have lived ever since.

Les was a 32nd degree Mason, former head of the Chelan County Centennial Committee, a past Kanzler for the Royal Bavarians and an active member of the local VFW post. He loved motorcycles and anything with a motorcycle engine. He also loved all pets, especially horses and mules and enjoyed gardening and tinkering with things.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Tiedeman of the family home; one daughter and son-in-law, Joleen and Willy Swantak of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Craig and Bobbi Tiedeman of Stanwood and Chris Tiedeman of Leavenworth; one brother, Del Tiedeman of Santa Clara, Calif.; grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan) Gallagher of Baltimore and Alex Tiedeman of Leavenworth. Les was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother, Lester H. Tiedeman.

A memorial service of commemoration to celebrate the life of Leslie P. "Les" Tiedeman was held on Oct. 18, 2012 at Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Private family inurnment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Les' name to the Toys for Tots or the local VFW post.

Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth was in charge of the arrangements.
