Your memory to us is a keepsake, with which we will never part. Though God has you in His keeping, we always have you in our hearts.

Earl Clair Johnson 81, left the loving embrace of his family to take his place in Heaven the evening of September 23. He was born in Leavenworth, Wash. on May 23, 1931 to Oscar and Lucy Johnson. Born and raised there, he graduated Leavenworth High School in 1951. After graduation, he worked at the Naval Ship Yard in Bremerton, Wash. Upon his return to Leavenworth, he married his soul mate, Joyce Duncan, on Sept. 20, 1953. They lived in Spokane for a short time but returned to Leavenworth where they would remain.

Earl worked for Safeway and McClain Supermarket until he began work as a logger for Jack Pine Logging. He then went on to work as a heavy equipment operator with the Washington State Department of Transportation, working mostly in Leavenworth and Stevens Pass. He worked hard throughout his life and was an excellent provider and protector of his family. But he was never at a loss for a good joke or friendly ribbing. He was loved and respected by many in the community, and was always one of the first in line to lend a helping hand. Many of his vacations were spent helping his father in law, E.B. Duncan, to harvest apples and pears in the fall.

After his well deserved retirement, he and Joyce became known as "The Wood Butchers." They made many beautiful items, Earl cutting them out on his scroll saw and assembling them, and Joyce painting and finishing them. They spent many Grange craft fairs meeting new people, making new friends and selling their wares.

Earl is survived by his wife Joyce of Cashmere, daughters Cindy Creech and her Husband David of Leavenworth, and Teri Kilgore and her husband Jack of Wenatchee, as well as two grandchildren, Jarred Creech and Jenny (Jeremy) Radach and three great grandchildren, Layne Creech, Emma and Kaylee Radach, all of Leavenworth.

A private family inurnment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Leavenworth with a memorial to be held at a later date. Those who wish may make a donation in Earl's name to the Humane Society or a charity of their choice.

Earl's family wish to thank Cashmere Convalescent Center, Dr. Karl Krantz, and Ward's Funeral Chapel for their kind and loving care of our husband, father and grandfather.

Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth is in charge of the arrangements.
