James Thomas Cage, Jr., 91, a longtime resident of Leavenworth and the Wenatchee Valley died Sunday Sept. 23, 2012 at Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth.
He was born on April 22, 1921 to James Thomas, Sr. and Effie Gladys (Leatherman) Cage at Raton, N.M. where he was raised and educated. On July 6, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army and became a Medical Non Commissioned Officer, training new recruits in their medical basic training. After receiving his honorable discharge on Jan. 18, 1946 he moved to Wenatchee where he went to work for the Chelan County Health Department until retiring as Head Sanitarian. James was a longtime resident of the Upper Valley. In 1973, he moved to Leavenworth, and on Jan. 24, 1974, married Agnes Mary McCartin at Leavenworth, where they made their home and purchased an orchard. James was a member of the Cashmere American Legion, the Lions Club, where he served as president and longtime secretary. He was an avid golfer and joined the Leavenworth Golf Club where he served as president. James also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
James is survived by his wife, Agnes of Leavenworth; his children, Donald James Cage of Wenatchee, Diana Hankins of Charlotte, N.C. and Deborah Cage of Seattle; one brother, Bill Cage of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren, Jason Hankins of Charlotte and Emily O'Grady of Germany and two great grandchildren.
At James' request there will be no service. Private inurnment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery in Leavenworth. Memorials may be made in James' name to the Mountain Meadows Assisted Living at 320 Park Ave. Leavenworth, WA. 98826 or to Cascade Medical, 817 Commercial St. Leavenworth, WA. 98826.
