Shades of 1968 as 'riots' erupt at political rally
In the summer of 1968 tens of thousands of protestors battled with police in the streets of Chicago in what became known as the "Battle of Michigan Avenue."
That protest was over another hotly contested presidential campaign. Senator Eugene McCarthy was running against Vice President Hubert Humphrey. The issue was the war in Vietnam.
Going into the Democrat convention neither candidate had the requisite number of delegates.
McCarthy's campaign called for getting us out of Vietnam. Vice President Humphrey was the Democrat Party favorite and supported the policy of President Johnson who expanded the war during his term.
The anti-war protestors made war in the streets of Chicago.
The result was the Democrats became deeply divided and Republican Richard Nixon won in a landslide.

Bernie's endless summer
Most young people bear-hug leftist propaganda a la Bernie's socialist rantings because Bernie attracts those who want things for free and have no idea who's paying for it and really don't care. Bernie is a creature of habit - bad habit. If people think wealthy Americans are hiding money in off shore accounts now, just wait until Bernie takes over.

Economic ignorance signals the end of freedom
The country is bankrupt. The national debit is now at $19 trillion not counting the full liability for Social Security obligations or pension payments to government employees.
Don't worry. Be happy. The rest of the civilized world is providing health care, retirement and free education to all of their citizens so we should be able to do that too. Ignore the fact that most of those civilized countries, Greece, Italy, and Spain for example, are facing violent protests because they can't pay for the benefits politicians have promised to provide.

I am writing this column from personal experiential knowledge. My credentials to do so appear at the end of this article. For sake of clarity I'm using bullet points to dispel various myths, confusions and false assertions about veterans and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Marijuana tax reduced in legislative proposal
OLYMPIA-In the state's battle to eliminate the illegal sale of marijuana, one lawmaker's proposal to reduce the tax of legal recreational marijuana may have to wait.
House Bill 2347 would reduce the excise tax on marijuana sales from 37 to 25 percent, in an effort to help make the prices more competitive with their black market counterparts, said the bill's primary sponsor Rep. Christopher Hurst, D-Enumclaw.
Hurst and proponents of the bill say a reduced tax would be one of the most important ways of eliminating the black-market sales of marijuana, which Hurst said still makes up 65 to 75 percent of sales in the state.

The problem with sound bites
Definition: Progressive - a person advocating or implementing social reform or new ideas - (innovator, reformer).
Watching the Democratic debate last week the two candidates were working hard to portray themself as the more progressive candidate. But exactly what "new" or "innovative" ideas were they supporting? Bernie Sanders would increase taxes on American businesses, increase the minimum wage, require overtime pay for anyone who makes less than $23.67 per hour, regulate prices on medical care and drugs, provide free college education to all and increase social security benefits. Hillary Clinton would reduce taxes on working families, create "good paying" jobs, expand the Affordable Health Care Act, raise the minimum wage, invest in students and teachers and raise taxes on the rich. Problem is none of these ideas are new or innovative and they have all failed and failed miserably. Yet every year "progressives" offer voters the same list of "new" progressive ideas for making their lives better. Today, less than half of the people actually pay any individual income tax. Income taxes are so low that Obama had to reduce the social security tax on individuals in order to "cut" middle class taxes after his first election. Now social security will go bankrupt even sooner than previously predicted. Government control of the economy has been the cornerstone of communism and socialism across the globe. The stated purpose has always been to establish a fair and equitable distribution of wealth. While it sounds good, it never works out.
