Order in the classroom - here comes the judge
The Washington Supreme Court has sanctioned the state legislature for failing to properly fund basic education. The fine is $100,000 per day. The fine will continue to be assessed until the legislature complies with the courts mandate.
The money will be placed in a fund for the benefit of education says the imperial court.
"But where is that money coming from exactly," asked your not so humble opinion writer.
It seems the legislature actually has to approve the expenditure or it cannot be funded.
Really? So the legislature has to approve paying a fine because it doesn't have all of the money it needs to meet all of the promises legislators made during their campaigns.

Thank you Mother Nature
The blizzard of the century finally did what the Republicans were unable to do - shut down our runaway federal government.
Unfortunately, the shutdown will be too temporary. In a few more days the Washington establishment will be back at work trying to fundamentally change America.
And of course that is the problem. What exactly is fundamentally wrong with America that it needs to be changed?
Many would argue that we are socially flawed. We are racist, sexist or otherwise exclusionary in our relations with others who are "different."
Never mind that there is no other country on the planet with a more diverse population. The problem with embracing all manner of human social behavior is that it ultimately makes all behavior acceptable no matter how deviant.
Many would argue that our economic system is unfair. We have too few rich and too many poor.
Never mind that people from all over the world are rushing to come here because our poor are filthy rich when compared to anything they have experienced in their corner of the world.
Many would argue that our greedy society is destroying the sustainability of life on the planet.

Governor Inslee wants your guns
The little mini-dictator in Olympia is working hard to emulate his idol in D.C. Now he's issued his own executive order to "gather information" and take steps to keep "firearms out of the hands of people in crisis."
It all sounds so good. Especially his claim that government has a "legal and moral obligation to protect the public's health and safety."
In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a card-carrying member of the NRA. But let's be honest here, nothing so clearly defines the limits of government's ability to "protect the public's health and safety" than the gun debate.
First, the task is impossible. Even if the government provided each citizen with their own full time personal bodyguard trained not only in self-defense but also in psychology so they could recognize signs of depression, they could not protect us all.
Second, limiting the personal freedom of the majority of law-abiding citizens to protect us from the minority of scofflaws and crazies bent on mayhem is ludicrous.

Facts be damned - we must reduce our carbon emissions
Last week the Department of Ecology announced its plan to implement the first-ever limits on carbon pollution in the state. Just so we are clear here, carbon "pollution" is environmentalist speak for carbon dioxide. DOE's plan is to have the largest employers in the state reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 5 percent per year.
The first undeniable fact is that carbon dioxide is a required element in our atmosphere. It is not a pollutant. Describing CO2 as a pollutant is nothing more than a cheap political trick to get the uninformed behind a scheme to support this dangerous agenda being pushed by the environmentalists.
Yes, you can call me a global warming/climate change denier. But it is just not me that is calling this hoax dangerous. As I pointed out in an opinion piece back in March of last year none other than Patrick Moore, Canadian ecologist and one time President of Greenpeace, now calls it a hoax. In fact, Moore says, "All plants need carbon dioxide to grow and in fact with our current carbon dioxide levels at roughly 400 parts per million plant life is nearly on a starvation diet." Moore goes on to point out that the planet has had periods where CO2 was as high as 4000 parts per million and there was no evidence of damage to the planet.

Not Again!
It was only a couple weeks ago that I wrote in this column about Muslim responsibility for addressing the evil in their midst. An evil that is spilling over and killing innocent Americans.
Last week it hit far too close to home in San Bernardino California.
In response President Obama said "Muslim leaders here and around the globe have to continue working with us to decisively and unequivocally reject the hateful ideology that groups like ISIL and al Qaeda promote; to speak out against not just acts of violence, but also those interpretations of Islam that are incompatible with the values of religious tolerance, mutual respect, and human dignity."
Mr. President, with all due respect, it is past time for Muslim leaders to speak out against these barbaric atrocities. It is time they took decisive action to put an end to this unspeakable evil. And it is time we all recognized that it was these radical terrorists who declared war on us.

Climate change zealots throw tantrum in Paris
The World Climate Change Summit began in Paris Monday. In response climate change activists around the world scheduled marches and protests intended to influence summit leaders to take action to ban the use of fossil fuels.
Unfortunately, terrorists disrupted their protest efforts in Paris when the French government decided to ban rallies following the terrorist attacks in that city. And in response the climate change protestors displayed their class and raided the memorials recently erected in honor of the victims for items to throw at police.
