Empty Bowls Thanks Leavenworth
It takes a village to accomplish great things, and once again the village of Leavenworth did just that at our recent Eighteenth Annual Empty Bowls
Festival. Nearly 700 people painted locally created bowls and enjoyed a scrumptious dinner with their neighbors. Many others in the community participated through the KOHO and on-line artist bowls auctions. Because of the efforts of so many, we can report that Empty Bowls 2014 raised more than $10,000 for the Community Cupboard, as well as $1000 for five local art grants.
We want to thank: The potters who handcrafted all the bowls; the auction artists who designed and painted lovely bowls for auction; local restaurants who donated their delicious soups; local bakeries and shops for their tasty breads and drinks; Leavenworth businesses for striking auction bowl displays; photographers capturing the art and the events; graphic artists and WVC students for artful posters.
A very special thank you to Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort for the use of a conference room for painting days, to the Leavenworth Echo for generously providing months of publicity for the event, and to KOHO radio for their enthusiastic highlighting of artists, volunteers, and our on-air and on-line auctions.
Other valuable contributors are Icicle TV, Cascade High School, the local fire hall, Leavenworth library, the Boy Scouts, LDS church youth, and local youth pianists. And of course, a huge thanks to all the volunteers--nearly 150 of you!-who helped in more ways than we can mention during the painting days, bowl sorting, and the night of the soup supper.
As we begin to think ahead to next year, we encourage any who want to join us in this great community project. Empty Bowls is a significant source of financial support for the Community Cupboard as it provides food for those in need. It also supports art experience for our children and youth through several local art grants. Contact us if you want to learn more.
