Every time I read about schools needing more funding, it makes me wonder why more people do not accept the free money available to every school. Every person who eats can help get this free money, without spending one additional penny. Everybody has seen the "Box Tops For Education" and "Labels For Education" coupons on products we buy.....soups, crackers, cereals, snacks, even binders and mailing labels! Box Tops For Education pays 10 cents for every coupon sent in. They will pay up to $60,000 in cash, per year, to each school. This would buy a lot of uniforms, equipment, and supplies. Labels for Education also buys equipment and supplies for schools.
Most of our local schools have a "coordinator" for these programs. Often it is a parent volunteer who collects, sorts, and counts the coupons, then sends them in each quarter. A check is then mailed direct to the school or the parent booster club. I am one of those coordinators. I do not get paid for time spent on this project, but I firmly believe in the benefits for schools.
In the last six months since we started collecting, with only 17 people collecting Box Tops For Education, Eastmont Junior High has earned $505, to be used as needed. For the 2012-2013 school year, 19 schools in the Wenatchee Valley participated, and collected $8,861 from Box Tops for Education. Just imagine, if every person in our valley would save the Box Tops and Labels for Education, each of these 19 schools could receive $60,000, a total of $1,140,000 in free money for our local schools! This can be accomplished without spending any more money than we already spend at the grocery store! Last year, schools across America received over $74 million dollars, just from collecting Box Tops! Of that total, 1949 schools in Washington state received $689,946 in cash. Why shouldn't we get our share?
It's simple to help out. Clip those Box Tops For Education and Labels for Education coupons off products you purchase. Drop them off at any local school, or contact me. You can also log on to www.boxtopsforeducation.com or www.btfe.com and sign up for additional free points. You can track the progress for the schools of your choice. You can purchase items online through their marketplace - large stores where you may shop anyway, but by shopping through the BTFE link, you get extra point credits for your schools.
Another way to help our schools is to sign up on the eScrip program at www.escrip.com. You register your store reward card numbers, loyalty cards, credit cards, debit card, etc. Every time you use that registered card, the merchant makes a contribution to your chosen school. It takes only a few minutes to register, and that's all you have to do. eScrip does the rest! You have nothing to clip and save. Nothing to track or deliver to a school. This program has distributed over $250 million to schools and organizations across the country since it was introduced in 1999.
Rather than complain about yet another tax increase for schools, why not do your part to help raise this much-needed money? These dollars are not used to pay teacher salaries or to give big bonuses. This money is used to buy needed supplies, books, and equipment! Come on Wenatchee Valley! Help our students and schools by saving those Box Tops For Education and Labels for Education coupons!
