The intent of the Echo publisher to tone down editorial rhetoric is an excellent and refreshing one. However, I can't agree with his new oped policy to give space to "conservative" and "progressive" views in separate issues of the newspaper. Isn't our discourse divided enough already? And who determines what is "conservative" and what is "progressive"? There is much room for attempting to find common ground. Separating readers into opposing camps and labeling them only deepens the divides.
