I enjoyed your beautiful "Living Postcard" in this week's Echo, but that is not "the Catholic Church on Benton Street" but the 100 year old Faith Lutheran Church on Benton Street the twin of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Center Street. (I guess our sign is covered with snow.) St. Joseph's was sold and subsequently moved to the Pension Anna where it still provides shelter to visitors in Leavenworth. The story has it that both churches were ordered from a Sears Roebuck catalog and they got "two for one." Faith Lutheran celebrated its centennial in 2009 and the building is still pretty solid, the interior walls covered with beautiful murals painted by artist Richard Caemmerer. Come and visit us sometime!
