Goodbye Walled City
Many witnessed removal of the last concrete panels from the Fruit Warehouse last Wednesday. Wonderful new view! We offer kudos to Leavenworth City officials for removing this obstruction. We've enjoyed the uniqueness of this valley and its developing community for the last fifty years and extend compliments for a project wisely contrived, well-conducted and awaiting completion.
With the Bavarian structures of upper Front Street now visible, we must, if at all possible, address the issue of a newly arising quasi-wall of parked vehicles. While planning for certified parking spaces, I urge that entrance gates be installed to limit the height of vehicles entering the upper level parking spaces. Let's hope this new wonderful view can be preserved. Campers, and oversized vehicles would be accommodated in the taller spaces located in the eastern/lower section of the new parking zone.
Further, I urge the mayor and council to develop a parking code that advises vehicles or campers of potential violation. Beyond my concern for the new parking along Highway 2 is the distraction of seeing campers and oversized vehicles parked on our "pedestrian malls," meaning the strolling areas about town. What a help it would be to know the City has a parking code that advises visitors of what and where parking is legal along with a means of enforcement.
