It's still magic!
Dear Editor,

There is a little magic in Leavenworth. Why do the people keep coming back to Leavenworth? Some of my customers come back 2-3 times a year. The answer is simple, it's because of our people. The City of Leavenworth does an outstanding job taking care of the downtown core. The City Employee's take pride in their work and go the extra mile. The streets are always clean, the garbage is always taken care of, and the landscape and flowers are second to none. Here we are in the middle of October and people are still taking pictures of our hanging flowers, Thank you Mayor and all the City workers for all you do. Our Chamber of Commerce, who does an awesome job of promoting Leavenworth, believe me, even with the economy the Chamber is getting people here. According to my suppliers, many tourist towns are in trouble and have business vacancies for rent. Project Bayern brings in thousands and thousands of people for Oktoberfest generally with minimum incidents. The money they raise goes to help many projects for Leavenworth. Thank you Project Bayern. Then there are the people whom volunteer for things like Maifest, Autumn Leaf Festival, Kinderfest, Salmon Fest, Christmas Lighting and the list goes on and on. We would not have Art in the Park without volunteers. The Bavarian Business Association is working hard with parking signs, and doing little things that make Leavenworth special. They also reach out to our locals as a way of saying thank you for supporting our businesses all year round. My Dad was active in the transition of Leavenworth, with a lot of other people. They had a beautiful vision and it came true. They also started Art in the Park, in the beginning Dad and volunteers made all the easels for he artists and stored them till the next use. At one time we had no public restrooms so Dad got together with the newspaper and at night he made a tee pee opened the flap, put a toilet inside and made a sign Leavenworth Public Restroom. Soon people rallied and we got our first public restroom. We have such a great business community that is very generous to support our local school kids, non profit organizations and so much more. Some years ago Leavenworth got an All American City award. I believe only 10 Cities were selected for that award that year. Don't take it from me, but ask a visitor about our City. The City, our organizations, our business and all the wonderful volunteers that donate countless hours to help make Leavenworth what it is. Don't tell anyone in Leavenworth that it can't be done, because we are doing it. Thanks to all our people who keep this magic alive.

Lest I forget Mayor Farivar, City Council and all involved; coming from the east, the new street and sidewalks are very impressive, thank you.

Fred Marlin
