I read with interest in your Oct. 24 issue of the current effort underway to build a temporary shelter at the Amtrak stop in Leavenworth. It's a great idea- I've spent some time out there in the cold waiting for trains and would have welcomed a warm shelter. A temporary building of some kind is fine to get something in place but in the long run, wouldn't it be a great opportunity to be able to return the original train station in Leavenworth to it's original purpose? It could be done. The original train station still exists in Leavenworth, as the Grange Hall across from Gustavs. The Bavarian theme has served Leavenworth well but in the end it's still all make-believe and the train stop is now well away from the Bavarian downtown. The old train station is our real history and if the Grange is open to negotiation on the topic that building could be moved to the Amtrak location and returned to its original purpose. What a great opportunity! If the Grange will not consider selling perhaps the old Winton station, the same design building, could be obtained and placed there - its still sitting along the tracks at Winton.
