Top left, Are Bavarian Tracten dressed, Rotary past president Bill Forhan, walking and Ken Kornhorst, sitting on the float for the Leavenworth Rotary Club. The Club entered their new float in the Maifest parade this year to make people aware that Polio still exists along with the need for clean water and food which still needs to be addressed in our world. Bottom left, owners and their beautiful Bermese dogs parade down the street all decorated with flowers and garb. Bottom, middle and left pictures are of the Looking Good in Lederhosen contest winners, Nancy Vidas and Pete Zimmerman came from Galveston, Texas to enjoy the festivities, along with other winners Patrick Wavering and Ted Sunwall from Missoula, Montana, who are also repeat winners from a few years ago, they said they enjoy our traditional Maifest and try to come back to Leavenworth every chance they get. Mr. Wavering on the left makes the walking stick like the one he is holding here. The annual Maifest is held on or near Mother's Day every year to celebrate mothers and is the kickoff for all the festivals held in Leavenworth throughout the year.

Cascade's Taliyah Riddick Waters putting finishing touch on brilliant softball career
In the sport of fastpitch softball, having a dominating pitcher can carry you a long way. The Cascade High School softball program has been blessed with a number of fine hurlers, which has propelled them to great heights over the last 10 years.

Local student project helps raise awareness on arctic preservation
On Earth Day, April 21, Cascade High School freshman Joseph Winters gathered some 75 people together to form a heart. Then, he took an aerial photograph of the group, with "I" and "arctic" added in front of and behind the heart, thus forming I (heart) arctic.

Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest on tap this week
Drawing in bird lovers or birders from all the country, the 11th annual Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest is happening this week, May 16, 17 and 19. Still going strong after 11 years, Bird Fest Organizer Jackie Haskins said the event keeps going because people are passionate about it, the folks that come to the festival and all the trip leaders who have been volunteering for years.

Lake Wenatchee State Park still cleaning up hundreds of fallen trees
Last Friday, some of the campgrounds opened at Lake Wenatchee State Park, the first time since the devastating winter storm last December. That storm bought down hundreds of trees all over the 469 acre park. Crews have been working since that storm to clean up the damage.

Pride Committee is back to clean things up in town
The Leavenworth Pride Committee is back and ready for action. The committee was first formed back in 2009, under former mayor Rob Eaton. The task of the committee was to make sure the town looked its best. But, for whatever reason, the committee fizzled out near the end of that year.
