It was graduation night for the Cascade High School Class of 2013 last Saturday night at the football field in Peshastin. Under mostly clear skies, families, teachers, students and others packed the stands to watch the Class of 2013 receive their diplomas. Neal Champagne and Ashley Ells were the Valedictorians and Magnus Schlyer was the Salutatorian.

Bear sighting ends recess early for Osborn kids
| A bear sighting last Wednesday near Osborn Elementary School prompted school officials to bring the children inside. Principal Kenny Renner Singer said the bear was sighted around 12:15 p.m. near the United Methodist Church.

| It's hard to mistake David Severance in Leavenworth. Any kid will tell you, he looks like Santa Claus. Well, that is just the look Severance is aiming for, but not exactly Santa. He is, more appropriately, Father Christmas, a fixture in Leavenworth going on 20 years.

| The Dwelling Place, a non-profit adult family home in Leavenworth, has received the largest donation in its 11 year history, $10,000. The Dwelling Place serves as a home for five developmentally disabled men.

| With much in the way of legislative uncertainty regarding the regulation of online schools, the Cascade School District is backing away from plans to move ahead next year with Columbia Virtual Academy.
The district was planning to move to level two in the CVA program, and hire an additional teacher or two. But recent developments have caused a change of plans.

| Sparked by the unexpected death of the Omak superintendent from a car accident, the Cascade School Board has adopted a Superintendent Succession policy. Superintendent Steve McKenna said the untimely death of the Omak superintendent reminded him the district did not have a plan in place, in case something happened to him.
Wednesday, June 12, 2013 More... | | | School District set to hire Band Director for CHS-IRMS | Since it was announced Skylar Garcia was leaving, Cascade School District officials have been actively seeking a new music teacher for the high school and middle school. Superintendent Steve McKenna wanted to get a head start looking for a new music teacher.
"Good music teachers are very hard to come by, so you want to be out quickly as possible, to get in front of the market to find the best person you can get," McKenna said.

| The Washington State Patrol is asking for the public's help in providing information on the events leading up to a multiple vehicle collision that occurred Thursday, May 23 around 2:10 p.m. on U.S. Highway 2 near milepost 94 in the Tumwater Canyon area.

| Due to a blown heater system, the Leavenworth city pool will be without heat until around mid July at the earliest. The 10 year old pool had been operating on the heating system of the previous pool, and that blew out about two weeks ago.
